Why are contact lens eye exams so important background

What Is a Contact Lens Exam?

Contact lens exams allow us to make sure your contacts perfectly suit your unique eyes and vision needs. These exams slightly differ from regular eye exams because contacts sit on your eyes instead of in front of them — and require a unique prescription and strong front-of-eye health. With additional tests like keratometry, corneal topography, and pupil measurements, we’re able to create a precise prescription for your lenses, clarify your front-of-eye health and tear film quality, and determine which type of contact lenses are best for you.

What Are Contact Lenses and How Do They Work?

Contact lenses are thin, curved optical discs placed directly on the eye’s surface to correct vision problems. They work by bending light before it enters the eye, compensating for refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

Unlike glasses, contact lenses move with the eye, providing a wider field of view and more natural vision. They offer a discreet and convenient alternative to eyeglasses, eliminating reflections, fogging, and changes in appearance.

With options like daily contact lenses for hassle-free wear, contact lenses provide seamless vision correction for those seeking comfort, convenience, and improved visual acuity

Why Are Contact Lens Eye Exams So Important?

These exams are necessary to make sure your contact lenses fit both your vision needs and eye shape for comfortable and clear vision. After all, these things are directly related: if your lenses don’t sit properly, they won’t correct vision as sharply! Using advanced technology, our detail-oriented doctors provide personalized fittings to make sure your contacts are easy to put in, wear, and take out every day. Ensuring your lenses fit properly is also critical for preventing eye infections and corneal abrasions.

Finding the Right Lens for You

Your experience with contacts depends greatly, of course, on selecting the right lenses for your eyes. Our doctors are experts in a variety of contacts and know how each can benefit you. We work with you to understand your lifestyle, vision goals, and complete eye health so we can make fully informed recommendations. And because not everyone is meant for regular contacts — such as if you have a corneal condition, dry eye, or astigmatism — we offer specialty contact lenses that accommodate and improve these issues!

Finding the right lenses for you background

Contact Lenses for Astigmatism

For astigmatism, toric contact lenses are available. These specialized lenses have different powers in different meridians of the lens to correct the irregular curvature of the cornea. Toric lenses come in various designs, including soft and rigid gas permeable options, providing comfortable and effective vision correction for individuals with astigmatism.

Multifocal Contact Lenses

Multifocal contact lenses cater to those with near and distance vision needs, typically due to presbyopia. These lenses incorporate different prescriptions in various zones, allowing seamless focus transition. They come in both soft and gas-permeable options, providing clear vision at various distances without the need for reading glasses.

Multifocal contact lenses are a convenient solution for everyone seeking clear vision across a range of distances.

Long and Short-Sighted Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are available for long-sightedness (hyperopia) and short-sightedness (myopia). For hyperopia, convex lenses are used to bring distant objects into focus. For myopia, concave lenses correct near vision. Both types come in various materials, including soft and gas permeable, offering comfortable and effective vision correction tailored to individual needs.

FAQs

How Do I Put in and Remove Contact Lenses

To insert contact lenses, start with clean hands – hand sanitizer is perfect. Place the lens on your fingertip. Hold your upper eyelid with one finger and pull down your lower lid with another. Gently place the lens onto your eye’s surface, then release your eyelids.

To remove, look upward, hold your eyelid, and use your fingertip to slide the lens down to the white of your eye. Gently pinch the lens between your thumb and finger to remove it.

Always follow your eye care professional’s instructions

What are Contact Lenses Made From?

Contact lenses are made from various materials, most commonly hydrogel or silicone hydrogel. These materials are soft, and flexible, and allow oxygen to pass through to the cornea, ensuring comfort and eye health.

Rigid gas-permeable lenses are made from a durable plastic material that also allows oxygen transmission.
